London Contemporary Furniture: 2012 Exhibitions
While it may seem that 2012 is a year of austerity and hunkering down against the impending crises, there are glowing pools of optimism all over the place, if you look hard enough. In technological advances, music, renewable energy, writing, theatre and architecture, the future still looks vibrant and encouraging. None more so than in the area of contemporary furniture design and creation. While the temptation may be to not replace the dining table and chairs, coffee table or bedroom furniture while this ill wind blows through society, people who have lived through bad times before know that it can also be those times where you need to feel good about yourself, your surroundings, and your furnishings. Forget investing in iffy government bonds and shaky stocks and shares, and look at enhancing your home and your feel-good factor by appreciating and acquiring some contemporary bedroom furniture, or perhaps indulging in a local contemporary furniture sale.
The impact that the purchase of some quality furniture can have on your home and on your spirits should not be underestimated. True, it may not provide you with spiritual enlightenment, but new contemporary furniture can create an atmosphere to uplift the soul and provide long-lasting practical benefits.
At the centre of all this, is the exhibition of contemporary furniture in London.

Back to London, and one of the iconic events, held at Earls Court every year, is the Ideal Home Show (formerly exhibition). This took place in Spring, and sported all manner of contemporary bedroom, lounge and other furniture. Prince Charles was there- no doubt trying to swap some of his fusty Queen Anne chairs from Buckingham Palace for something more up-market, along with many others, was he up too for taking home some contemporary furniture in London? Here our heir-apparent sits in an appropriately be-flagged chair:
Some evolutionary and revolutionary furniture was on display, showing that contemporary furniture design is alive and well.
The ceremonial dress of the Grenadier Guards, Household Cavalry and British Army was the inspiration behind a stunning living room suite to be auctioned off thanks to the Ideal Home Show, as part of the “Homes for heroes” campaign. The money raised by the soldier inspired suite will go to The Soldiers’ Charity to support the men and women who defend the country.

The interior designs, including bespoke contemporary furniture, were pretty eye-catching, and not only gave one ideas for re-vamping one’s own home, but inspired people to reconsider their home furnishings and be bold- even by considering what you might be able to do with that dark and dusty loft space!
